Description: This workshop will provide participants with foundational knowledge in the areas of labour standards and employment law with a specific focus on issues related to arts organizations and festivals. It will introduce participants to the basics of employment law, including different types of employees and independent contractors, key contractual terms, hiring and firing, and employer requirements and rules. It will review common law requirements, as well as those found in various provincial and federal statutory regimes. Other topics to be included include privacy law, employment discipline, and human rights in the employment context.
